firefighters are back for a 4th humanitarian mission in Ukraine

Having left on October 9, a team of six members of the Humanitarian Aid of Firefighters 06 arrived in Ternopil, one of the large cities in western Ukraine, with 3.5 tons of food. food and hygiene and medical products to be distributed in the most affected villages and frontline hospitals.

“Since the start of the war, this is the fourth mission of our association, and the first this year,” explains Gérard Menta, head of Humanitarian Aid, who is on the front line of solidarity, whether local, national or international.

For security reasons, the Menton convoy, made up of three vehicles, made a first stop in Poland, where it was escorted to the Ukrainian border, then local firefighters took over to Ternopil, where The distribution is carried out.

“Thanks to the collections that we organized on our territory and for which people mobilized, we were able to provide them with food, warm clothes, hygiene products and medical equipment and materials,” explains Gérard Menta, specifying that in total, nearly twenty tonnes of products have already been delivered to Ukraine by the association since the start of the conflict.

Strengthened collaboration

On site, the management of the Ternopil region expressed its gratitude to the Riviera firefighters for their help, emphasizing its importance in ensuring the proper functioning of the emergency units. A close collaboration which was sealed last Friday by an official visit from the Minister of Emergency Situations (DSNS) of Ukraine to the members of Humanitarian Aid 06. Together, they discussed the possibility of strengthening existing cooperation through the development of a partnership, in order to assess as closely as possible the needs and opportunities for additional assistance.

Thus, the Humanitarian Aid firefighters became familiar with the history of the place and the working conditions of the Ternopil fire and rescue service. They were able to inspect the equipment and premises and visited the region’s fire and rescue museum. This visit allowed them to better understand the context in which Ukrainian rescuers operate and to determine what resources could be useful in the future. These sharing of knowledge and experiences aim to improve the effectiveness of rescue operations and the safety of citizens.

A new call for donations is launched

Thus, at the start of 2025, three trucks will hit the road again for a fifth mission already planned for Ukraine. Firefighters’ Humanitarian Aid is launching a new appeal for generosity*.

“We will still and always need food, canned goods, packaged dry products, etc. But also medicines of all kinds, hygiene products, particularly for young children (diapers, etc.) and materials medical…”

As winter approaches, the association remains more mobilized than ever to help the populations of the French Riviera territory (Bévéra and Roya valleys). In Breil-sur-Roya, around fifty families are followed all year round by Humanitarian Aid, which is also requested near Sospel and on the coast; work that she carries out in collaboration with social workers. Solidarity at all times and on all fronts.
