relatives of Israeli hostages find hope

The death of Yaya Sinoir does not mark the end of the war, but rather the beginning of the end of the war in Gaza. This is how Benjamin Netanyahu reacted Thursday evening, October 17, to the death of the Hamas leader. Killed by the Israeli army in the south of the Gaza Strip, Yaya Sinouar, nicknamed the butcher of Khan Youneswas considered the mastermind of the October 7 attacks. His death raises hope among relatives of hostages still held in the Gaza Strip.

The death of the Hamas leader represents a victory for these families who must now, according to them, ensure the return of their loved ones to Israel. Around a hundred hostages are still being held by the Islamist movement. Half would be dead. Contacted by RTL, Yaël Adar is Tamir’s mother. His 38-year-old son was killed in captivity. His body is still in the Gaza Strip.

“Sinouar, the terrorist who carried out the attack of October 7, the one who for months blocked any release agreement is now dead. It’s only fair. We call on the Israeli government and mediators to seize this moment to ensure that those who are alive can return home. Others, like my son, must be buried with dignity. Their return can put an end to the clashes and thus regain peace in this area,” assures the bereaved mother.

Israel has promised to cooperate with the United States to facilitate the release of the hostages, but this is not expected to bring an immediate end to the fighting in the Gaza Strip. Until then, the Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has always favored the use of force over negotiations to pursue its objective: the total eradication of Hamas.

Today, the Islamist movement is certainly weakened, but is not totally destroyed, as the organization is accustomed to clandestinity and has integrated the elimination of its executives into its operation.
