Prada unveils spacesuit to be worn by NASA astronauts on Artemis III mission

Prada enters the space age. The Italian house was chosen to design the suits for NASA astronauts during the Artemis III mission, planned for 2026. This flight will mark the return of humans to the Moon, including the first woman to set foot there. During the Astronautics Congress in Milan, Prada and Axiom Space presented the AxEMU (Axiom Extravehicular Mobility Unit) suit.

“Exceeding our limits is one of the company’s values which perfectly reflects the spirit of Prada and the vision of my parents. I am very proud of the result we present today, which is only the first step in a long-term collaboration with Axiom Space,” said Lorenzo Bertelli, Marketing Director of the Prada Group. The brand used its expertise in materials and sewing to create an outfit capable of protecting astronauts in the extreme conditions of the Moon. The suit incorporates tailor-made gloves to improve the precision of movements, boots specially designed to withstand freezing temperatures, as well as a thermal regulation system. Astronauts will be able to work up to eight hours straight in complete safety. Design-wise, the unisex suit maintains the classic white style of the Apollo missions, with touches of gray and red, reminiscent of the aesthetic of the Luna Rossa sailboat, a Prada-sponsored racing boat designed to compete in the America’s Cup .
