A 72-year-old man, resident of Saint-Chamond (Loire), was arrested and taken into police custody on October 14, 2024, after a hunting accident, reports News Saint-Etienne . He is suspected of being the author of a fatal shot which hit another 42-year-old hunter in the head, during a private wild boar and fox hunt, on September 28.
Eight hunters present at this hunt
The defendant, who was referred on the afternoon of October 15 to the Saint-Étienne public prosecutor’s office, was not immediately identified. For good reason, that day, several bullets had been fired by different hunters. According to the information of Progress there would have been at least eight hunters shooting simultaneously and from two different hunting companies.
Tests were carried out that day: “for all participants, alcohol and drug screenings were negative”specified the public prosecutor of Saint-Étienne, David Charmatz, in a press release relayed by local media.
The investigation finally made it possible to identify the alleged perpetrator of the fatal shooting. The latter, unknown to the police, was placed under judicial supervision. His rifle was seized and he is prohibited from hunting. He is summoned to court on March 25.
