A fatal accident occurred on Monday morning on the Aarschotsesteenweg towards Koningshooikt, near Marieke Vervoortlaan. A 21-year-old woman from Lier, who was on her bicycle, was hit by a concrete truck. She did not survive the accident.
Karen Vervoort, spokesperson for the local police in Lier, confirms the incident. “Around 7.40 am we received a call about a serious traffic accident. Our teams immediately went to the scene. Unfortunately, it was a fatal accident. A 21-year-old young lady from Lier was hit by a concrete truck that was on its way to a construction site. A traffic expert is currently on site to investigate the circumstances of the accident,” it said.
The driver who drove the concrete truck is also being taken into custody, he is said to be in shock. He tested negative for alcohol and drugs.
The exact cause of the accident is still under investigation. The concrete truck involved was on its way to a construction site nearby. It is still unclear exactly how the accident could have happened.
The Aarschotsesteenweg towards Koningshooikt is currently closed to through traffic.
