Deux-Sèvres: four dead in the accident of a Tesla electric car

When help arrived, the passengers in the vehicle were already dead. Four people lost their lives on Saturday evening in the accident of a Tesla electric car, we learned on Sunday from the Deux-Sèvres gendarmerie.

The public prosecutor’s office declared that it currently had “no information concerning the causes of the accident”. “An investigation has been opened to determine the causes and circumstances of the fatal accident, an investigation during which the expertise of the vehicle is requested,” the duty magistrate told AFP.

The accident occurred around 10:45 p.m. Saturday evening. According to initial information, the car caught fire on a departmental road near the town of Melle, around twenty kilometers east of Niort.

The causes of the accident “undetermined” for the moment

The tragedy occurred for an “undetermined reason” for the moment, according to another source close to the gendarmerie. The four people in the vehicle were “already dead when help arrived,” authorities said.

The driver was from Niort and the three passengers were employees of a restaurant in Melle, said the other source close to the gendarmerie. “The identification of the victims is being verified,” said the prosecution.

According to the first elements of the investigation, the vehicle hit several road signs at high speed.
