A new tribute will take place this Monday in Conflans-Sainte-Honorine, in memory of Samuel Paty, this history professor murdered in 2020 after leaving his college. The Prime Minister, Michel Barnier, will go there during the day. But in this city, the trauma of this event remains very present.

A few steps from the d’Aulne college, which should be officially renamed Samuel Paty on October 18, Fabien is walking with his family. For him, this new tribute is very important, it is even a duty to remember: “Young people, even very young ones, must be able to understand that this is an act which is odious and which has no place in our society. It must be cited, shown as an example to children. It must be remembered.

“We must safeguard secularism, we need a government that is up to the task”

But in Conflans-Sainte-Honorine, some especially want what is necessary to be done so that this tragedy does not happen again, like Michel, 78 years old: “Tributes are good, but we need actions, we need that stop all this. I’m waiting for sanctions. We need firmness because what happened is unacceptable and it’s not going very well. We see what’s happening in the colleges. , in high schools, Personally, I find it dramatic. We must safeguard secularism, we need a government that is up to the task.

One thing is certain here, everyone is waiting for November 12, which corresponds to the date of the trial for the eight adults implicated in the murder of Samuel Paty. Remember that the 18-year-old Chechen assassin was shot dead a few minutes after the incident.
