A 23-year-old young man was arrested on suspicion of the murder of a thirty-year-old man who occurred in Les Abymes on October 6. He was taken into custody before being indicted for murder. His arrest followed the use of surveillance videos and testimonies collected on site.
The drama took place on October 6 in Les Abymes, during a birthday party. A 32-year-old man lost his life after being shot in the head in the Petit-Pérou district. A shocking video of his body lying on the ground quickly made the rounds on social media.
Thanks to testimonies and the use of surveillance videos, the authorities were able to reconstruct the events leading to the victim’s death.
Around 6 a.m., an altercation broke out between the victim and a group of individuals. According to information collected by investigators, the victim was hit, then pulled out a knife, injuring his attacker. The latter, aged 23, then reacted by pulling out a gun and shooting the victim in the head. The murder occurred in full view of numerous witnesses.
The police quickly opened an investigation, with the criminal brigade of the Territorial Directorate of the National Police (DTPN) of Guadeloupe in charge.
On the scene, forensic technicians, a forensic doctor and judicial police officers made the first findings.
The investigators’ efforts quickly bore fruit: the suspect, injured during the altercation, was found at the Pointe-à-Pitre university hospital, where he had gone to receive treatment. He was immediately taken into custody.
According to the statements of the suspect, who was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident, he has no memory of shooting the victim.
However, the material evidence, as well as the statements of witnesses, led the investigating judge to indict him for murder.
On October 12, after an adversarial debate before the judge of freedoms and detention, he was placed in pre-trial detention pending his trial.
This murder was the 25th homicide recorded in Guadeloupe since the start of 2024, and the 19th involving a firearm. These alarming figures reflect a worrying trend in armed violence in the archipelago.
