While “Agnès Pannier-Runacher announced on Friday that an amendment would be tabled with a view to an increase in the gas tax”, the Minister of the Budget tempers his remarks this Saturday
“What I am telling you, as Minister of the Budget, is that the bill does not contain an increase in gas taxation,” assured Laurent Saint-Martin this Saturday on the 1 p.m. news on TF1.
He added that he was “not in favor” of such a tax increase within the framework of the finance bill, stressing that any increase in this tax would have direct repercussions on the wallets of the French.
The Minister of Ecological Transition had nevertheless mentioned this possibility during a press briefing, citing “an increase in taxes on plane tickets and gas”.
For the Minister of the Budget, this is only a simple “track” to study within the framework of the budgetary debate.
“What Agnès Pannier-Runacher said is that there would perhaps be amendments on the increase in gas taxation,” reframes Laurent Saint-Martin.
Remember that the excise on gas has already been doubled on January 1, 2024, from 8.37 euros to 16.37 euros per megawatt hour.
