Indicted in a drug case, the mayor of Avallon announces that she will resume her duties

Indicted in April after the discovery of 70 kg of cannabis at her home, Jamilah Habsaoui continues to proclaim her innocence. His judicial review was reduced.

I believe deeply in justice, but also in the truth, and consider my total innocence in this legal case as obvious.”

For the first time since her indictment in a drug trafficking case, the mayor of Avallon (Yonne) Jamilah Habsaoui spoke this Friday, October 11, through a two-minute video broadcast on Facebook.

70 kilos of cannabis resin, 983 grams of cocaine

It all started with a preliminary investigation, launched in October 2023, implicating two brothers of Jamilah Habsaoui, suspected of engaging in the purchase and resale of narcotics from their sister’s home. Some 70 kg of cannabis resin and 983 grams of cocaine were found at Ms. Habsaoui’s home. Investigators also got their hands on 20 gold bars (only two of which were real) and a large sum of money, but from one of his brothers.

Placed under judicial supervision in May, after a little over a month of pre-trial detention, the elected official saw her judicial supervision relax at the end of September, which notably allows her to appear again in Yonne… Hence his decision to resume his functions, and this from the next municipal council scheduled for Monday, October 14.

“We are not responsible for our loved ones”

In this video, Jamilah Habsaoui continues to proclaim her innocence. “It obviously does not escape me that the involvement, in this procedure, of my two brothers, can question and disturb. I simply remind that we are not responsible for our loved ones, even if the consequences of their individual actions can be serious and painful. This is why, out of modesty, I will not express myself about my family, which everyone can hear. However, I would like to point out that I have always condemned and that I condemn unequivocally, with the. greater firmness, this absolute scourge that drug trafficking represents”, unfolds the mayor. Ms. Habsaoui affirms that she will speak on the merits of this affair “when the time comes, when I am officially cleared of all suspicion”.

“A media steamroller”

In the meantime, she assures of her full determination to resume her duties. “Be assured of my total determination to work and pursue our projects, which, thanks to the seriousness of my municipal team and our agents, whom I sincerely thank, have experienced no interruption. Nothing will distract me from the responsibilities for which you ‘trusted’. However, she says she regrets “the media steamroller, often populist, sometimes blind” who struck his commune as well as “the release of voyeurism, hatred, sexism and racism of which I was the victim“.

The municipal council of this small town of 6,800 inhabitants will nonetheless be closely observed on Monday.
