A very honest statement from someone who does not hesitate to talk about her relationship to the body and sexuality: the lesbian singer is fundamentally committed against body shaming, this set of prejudices and remarks which aim to create complexes young women and make them feel guilty. Relationship to their weight, their height, their physical appearance. For Billie Eilish, body shaming is never far from “slut shaming”, the way men judge women’s sexuality.

Last year in the pages of Variety, the singer explained: “I’ve never tried to stop people from sexualizing me. But for a long time I didn’t want people to have access to my body. I wasn’t strong enough and secure enough to show it. If I had shown it at the wrong time, I would have been completely devastated“.

Words that recall his famous viral speech, shared on his social networks, but also on stage (while getting rid of his clothes, during one of his concerts), against body shaming: “Some people hate what I wear. Others praise it…;If I wear what’s comfortable, I’m not a woman.” If I shed those layers of clothing, I’m a slut“.

The star had sparked debate by posing for a photo shoot in lingerie (including a Gucci corset) for Vogue, abandoning her usual baggy clothes for an outfit directly reminiscent of 1950s pin-ups. For Billie Eilish, it was another way of affirming a freedom which, in his eyes, remains fundamental: his body, his choices.
