End of “rain-flood” vigilance in -Atlantique and Yellow “Flood” vigilance for Sèvre

“Rain-flood” vigilance

Intense precipitation fell on Loire-Atlantique throughout the day of Wednesday October 9, 2024.

Yellow “Flood” alert for the Nantes Sèvre.
The Nantes Sèvre has been on yellow alert since 10 a.m. today and will be maintained at this level of alert for tomorrow.

Firefighter interventions

Fabrice Rigoulet-Roze, prefect of the region, prefect of Loire-Atlantique, came this afternoon to the SDIS call processing center to thank the firefighters and take stock of the interventions carried out and in progress:

Since 7 a.m. this morning and to date (10 p.m.), firefighters from SDIS 44 have carried out 392 interventions, 90% of which were for flooding. 87 municipalities were affected by the disaster, particularly in the region of Retz where firefighters carried out 110 interventions, including 13 still in progress. This afternoon, the CTA CODIS experienced up to 93 new requests for assistance per hour.

The prefect, the chief of staff and the sub-prefect of Saint-Nazaire went this evening to Pornic and Saint-Brévin to provide their support to the mayors and victims of the two municipalities heavily affected by the rains and floods today. @Prefect44

Some municipalities were particularly affected, notably Pornic, La Plaine-sur-Mer, La Bernerie en Retz, Saint-Philbert-de-Grand-Lieu and Villeneuve en Retz. The firefighters carried out several dozen safety measures, including 41 in the Pays de Retz sector.

Highlights
• Pornic: a cart was submerged in a river which had overflowed. Two witnesses carried out the rescue of the driver, including a professional firefighter who was off mission. The victim was evacuated to the Saint-Nazaire hospital and is now conscious;

• Saint-Brévin-les-Pins: evacuation in progress of a senior residence of 90 residents;
• La Plaine sur mer: securing a person stuck in a bus in a flooded area;
• Villeuneuve en Retz: the Bourgneuf pond has overflowed into the lower areas of the town;
• Saint-Philbert de Grandlieu: the Boulogne river was in flood with an impact on 6 pavilions. Around ten homes were affected by 60 cm of water.

Eric De Wispeleare, sub-prefect of Saint-Nazaire, visited the field in the afternoon, alongside the mayors, in the municipalities of Pornic, Saint-Brévin-les-Pins and La Plaine-sur-mer .

Mathilde Leroy, intern at the National Institute of Public Service (INSP) also went, in the afternoon, to Saint-Étienne-de-Montluc and Couëron.

Fabrice Rigoulet-Roze, prefect of Loire-Atlantique, prefect of the Pays de la Loire region, visited this evening, accompanied by Eric de Wispeleare, sub-prefect of Saint-Nazaire and Marie Argouarc’h, director office, in Pornic and Saint-Brévins-les-Pins to take stock of the situation and to provide support to mayors and disaster victims.

Transport networks

On the ring road, rising water levels could lead to a closure at the Porte de Gesvres overnight.

The NOES interchange ramp on the N171 is flooded, no longer allowing exits in the Saint-Nazaire- direction. The diversion is in place.

The TER line between Nantes and Sainte-Pazanne is still blocked at this time.

Aléop school transport is suspended for the morning of Thursday October 10, 2024 in all of the following territories: Pornic Agglo Pays de Retz and Sud Estuaire community of communes, Sud-Retz Atlantique community of communes and community of communes of Pays d’Ancenis .

Safety instructions for the population

Some roads still remain submerged and the flood episode is still in progress on the Sèvre Nantaise, the prefect invites the population to be extremely vigilant and recalls the advice of caution to under no circumstances engage on a submerged road, even partially.

All security and emergency services remain heavily mobilized, the departmental operational center (COD) is kept on active watch for the evening and night.
