The fate of six Thai hostages still unknown one year after the Hamas massacres » thailande-fr

The Israeli government has pledged to use all possible means to rescue the six Thai workers still missing, one year after their kidnapping during the Hamas terrorist attack in southern Israel on October 7, 2023.

Of the 31 Thais initially taken hostage by Hamas last October, 23 were released. Two of them were confirmed dead in May and the fate of the other six is unknown.

Orna Sagiv, Israel’s ambassador to Thailand, said there had been no recent information about the remaining Thai hostages being held in Gaza.

“Hamas is not cooperating with anyone,” she said Monday when the embassy and the Jewish Association of Thailand held a commemoration ceremony in Bangkok.

“For a year already, Hamas has not allowed the Red Cross or any other international organization to visit any of the hostages. So, unfortunately, we don’t know,” she said. “We have no new information on the whereabouts of the hostages and their situation.”

Ms Sagiv told the Bangkok Post that the Israeli government guarantees the safety of the approximately 35,000 Thais still working in the country, despite the presence of hostile forces around its territory.

“The Israeli government has done everything it can to protect Thai workers, including providing information in the Thai language and building more shelters in dangerous areas,” Ms Sagiv said.

Ms. Sagiv announced that Israel had recently discovered that Hezbollah was planning a massacre similar to that carried out by Hamas on October 7 of the previous year.

She said the Iran-backed group was planning a systematic infiltration of northern Israel to kidnap and murder people.

“They had tunnels, cars, infrastructure and weapons ready. So we cannot sit back and wait for this to happen. We need to make sure they can’t do it. We must do everything in our power to protect our citizens and ensure that they live in peace,” she added.
