Robson Matheus: The midfielder who won his starting place thanks to his determination | El Deber

Robson Matheus honed his skills at Corinthians before joining Always Ready. He represents the essential balance in the green team as it prepares to face Colombia, its rival this Thursday in El Alto (4 p.m. p.m.).

This 22-year-old has become a key asset for the national team. Although he had already been called up to the senior team, it was under the leadership of coach Óscar Villegas that Matheus consolidated his role as a defensive and creative midfielder. He delivered an exceptional performance against Venezuela and followed up with another solid performance against Chile. His place in the starting lineup for the match against Colombia, scheduled for this Thursday at 4:00 p.m. at Villa Ingenio, is confirmed. Matheus exudes calm and confidence.

“His strong faith in God was a great help,” say those around him, praising his focus, his willingness to listen, and his determination to remain faithful to the professional life he imagined for himself, centered around football. It seems that when he puts on the green jersey, he doesn’t feel any pressure; he plays with ease and even enjoys it. Reaching the national team was not an easy path (who said it was?).

Matheus began to shine at a very young age, winning championships in futsal and establishing himself as one of the best at Milton Melgar’s academy. At the age of 10, his Brazilian father, after whom he is named, took him to Corinthians, who had already received glowing reports about the young Bolivian. It was there that he developed his skills, learned the game and built his character playing for clubs like Portuguesa, Palmeiras, and now Always Ready, his current club. He has “national team DNA”, having played at youth levels before making the jump to the senior side.

Football was always his priority, supported by his father and his mother, Gina Benegas, a Bolivian who did not hesitate to move to Brazil to ensure that his diet was well managed.
