Open your door with your iPhone
The Aqara Smart Lock U200 lock comes in the form of a box that attaches to the door on the inside, with the key inserted into the lock. Here, there is no need to change the cylinder, which is very practical. But as our colleagues from Numerama have noticed, installing the Aqara U200 can be a little complicated. If this lock fits the vast majority of French doors, it is, for example, not ideal for those which require the handle to be raised. Small jobs will therefore have to be done… We advise you to call a locksmith if the installation becomes too delicate.
It is once properly installed that the Aqara U200 will reveal its true strengths: the multitude of ways to unlock its door and its compatibility with almost all market standards. We can open and close our door using Bluetooth and the application, and we can even use the keyboard if necessary to enter a code or enter your home using our fingerprint. It is also possible to connect the Aqara U200 to a HomePod or an Apple TV to add it to your iPhone and place the smartphone or an Apple Watch on the keypad to open its door: the magic of the Apple Home Key. Concretely, a virtual card will be generated in Apple Wallet and activated using the NFC reader of the lock. And if you are more of Google Home, Alexa (Amazon) or SmartThings (Samsung), you can add the lock to your application thanks to Matter. The lock is indeed compatible with this universal standard for connected objects.
A durable lock
In terms of autonomy, the Aqara U200 recharges via USB-C once every six months; enough to be peaceful for a good while. Additionally, since Matter works locally and the lock is battery-powered, Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, the risk of breakdowns is truly minimized. And then if a breakdown occurs, know that it is always possible to use your key.
Finally, as for the software, our colleagues from Numerama experienced some bugs with Matter. For example, the automatic door closing could be deactivated from time to time, as could the home key with Apple. In addition, the lock may tend not to close the door all the way, without leaving it wide open, fortunately.
