Depression Kirk: Météo raises the alert to 30 departments for violent winds, rain-flooding and floods: News

30 departments are placed on orange vigilance by Météo , Wednesday October 9, 2024, for the passage of the Kirk depression over French territory.

The Kirk depression is felt in France. Heavy rains will hit the northern half of France on Wednesday October 9, over a large area extending from " rel="tag">Pays de la Loire to the south of Picardy, passing through the region and Champagne-Ardennes. “The accumulations over the whole day will be very significant”warns Météo France. They could thus reach 50 to 70 mm in the Paris basin and in Champagne-Ardennes and 60 to 80 mm, or even locally 90 mm, in the Pays de Loire and in particular the Vendée. “These are the quantities that usually fall in a month. This precipitation will occur in a context of already very wet soils and could therefore cause flooding”assures Météo France, in its morning bulletin.

23 departments have been placed on orange alert for rain-flooding: Vendée, Loire-Atlantique, Maine-et-Loire, , Deux-Sèvres, Mayenne, Indre-et-Loire, Loir -et-Cher, Eure-et-Loir, , Seine-et-, Essonne, , Val-d’Oise, Paris, Hauts-de-Seine, Seine-Saint -Denis, Val-de-Marne, Oise, Marne, Aube, Aisne, Ardennes. Vendée and Seine-et-Marne are also on orange alert for floods.

Strong winds in the southeast and southwest

In the south of France, very strong winds will blow locally in the west of the Pyrenees, with gusts reaching 120 to 150 km/h on the summits and 100 to 110 km/h in the valleys and in plain. The departments of Hautes-Pyrénées and Pyrénées-Atlantiques are placed on orange alert for violent winds.

In the departments of Loire and Rhône, also placed on orange alert for violent winds, 100 to 110 km/h are expected, temporarily in the Gier valley and in the south and east of . Haute-Saône, Vosges and Saône-et-Loire are on alert for floods.
