Sébastien Lecornu assures that “no one wants to disarm the country for its defense”

The Minister of the Armed Forces calls for a “political solution” in the Middle East, and assures that does not “deliver weapons to Israel” but “components” used for “purely defensive systems”.

While Emmanuel Macron’s comments regarding an arms embargo against Israel have triggered strong diplomatic tensions between the two countries, Sébastien Lecornu assures this Tuesday, October 8 in an interview with Sud-Ouest, that “no one wants to disarm Israel for its defense”.

“The only question that now arises is this: are we moving towards a regionalization of the conflict? Are we at the dawn of a direct war between Iran and Israel? France’s duty is to avoid it”, believes the minister.

Sébastien Lecornu also assures that “contrary to the untruths of LFI”, “France does not deliver weapons to Israel” but “components” used for “purely defensive systems” serving to “protect the Israeli civilian population”.

“The president’s remarks are a call for consistency and, above all, de-escalation. What is needed after the military response is a political solution,” insists the Minister of the Armed Forces.

“What is needed after the military response is a political solution”

Emmanuel Macron explained on Saturday October 5 on France Inter that the “priority” in the conflict in the Middle East was “that we return to a political solution, that we stop delivering weapons to carry out the fighting in Gaza”.

The Élysée nevertheless clarified to BFMTV that France will continue to export to the Hebrew State the components necessary for its defense, in particular those concerning the anti-missile defense device “Iron Dome”.

This position is a “shame” for the Israeli Prime Ministerresponded Benjamin Netanyahu. “Rest assured that Israel will fight until the battle is won, for our sake and for the sake of peace and security in the world,” he added.
