a horse killed with seven stab wounds, its rider left unconscious

While walking with her horse, the rider fell as two men approached. Found in a state of shock, the young woman was unable to save her horse, stabbed seven times.

An act of barbarity, with no real explanation. Audrey, a 26-year-old rider, was walking near this Friday, October 4 in the town of Bon-Encontre (Aquitaine), even though she was on her horse, Champion. Shortly before the end of this walk, a car arrives behind her, and two men get out of the vehicle. The horse gets scared, rears up, causing Audrey to fall.

The two people left the unconscious rider on the side of the road and stabbed Champion, her horse, seven times. The animal, thrown on the side of the road, was found dead.

“A panic call”

Audrey will wake up a few moments later in the middle of a pool of blood. Still on the road, now alone, she desperately searches for her horse, before finding him a few meters away.

The young woman, who is now safe and sound, then contacted Carole Pleumeckers, the director of the Gaillardet Stables, where she is a rider. “I received a panicked call from Audrey asking me to come quickly and save her horse. There was blood everywhere…” confides Carole Pleumeckers on BFMTV.

“We found Audrey in a state of shock and we noticed that Champion had been dead for a while. We understood very quickly that the horse could not have done this on its own,” explains Carole Pleumeckers to BFMTV.

A chilling act of barbarity

According to initial findings, the blows given to the horse were of singular violence. The attackers attacked the animal: seven knife wounds in the neck at the level of the artery.

An act which would prove, according to the owner of the stables, that the two men in question “knew what they were doing”.

“Friendly riders, colleagues, be vigilant at this time. The watchword for us is not to go too far alone until the investigation is complete,” writes Carole Pleumeckers on the Ecuries de Gaillardet Facebook page.

This Monday, October 7, scientific police officers went to the scene to collect information. According to Alexandre Capes, departmental secretary of the Unit 47 police union, the act is for the moment “isolated”. “No lead has been overlooked. We hope, thanks to the clues that have been found, to trace the perpetrator(s) of the acts fairly quickly.”

An investigation was opened into an act of cruelty towards an animal leading to its death.
