To protest against incivility, this town hall closes its doors

Jean-Claude Girard, the mayor of Ouges, has decided to close the reception of his town hall for a week to protest against the violence and incivility of which elected officials are increasingly victims, reports Blue Burgundy.

Indeed, the mayor of this small town in the Côte-d’Or department took this decision, in support of the mayor of Saint-Priest-La-Marche, in Cher. The latter has recently been the target of incivility and violent acts from residents of the village.

Doors closed to the public

At the end of last week, 32 town halls in Cher closed their doors to the public for two days in support of the mayor of Saint-Priest-La-Marche. The mayor of Ouges, who was also the victim of incivility in 2021, therefore decided to do the same within his town hall. A decision that he considers to be a mark of support for his Berry colleague.

« “All mayors must go in the same direction”, according to the councilor of Ouges »

“There comes a time when mayors must bang their fists on the table to assert their rights and manage their municipalities with complete peace of mind,” confides Jean-Claude Girard to our colleagues at Radio France Burgundy. The councilor adds that “all mayors at the national level must move in the same direction because they suffer the same inconveniences”. Ouges town hall will only reopen its doors from October 14. In the meantime, telephone reception from the town hall is assured.
