Motocross of Nations 2024: Australia wins, Canada ranks 15th

This year the Motocross of Nations (MXON) was organized at Matterley Basin, in the United Kingdom. Jess Pettis (MXGP), Kaven Benoit (MX2) and Dylan Wright (OPEN) were selected to make up the Canadian team under the direction of Kourtney Lloyd.

Jess Pettis and Dylan Wright already represented Canada last year. Kaven Benoit won his plane ticket thanks to his title of Canadian 250 champion. This is not his first participation since he participated in his first MXON in 2010. He returned in 2014 and 2016 and he missed an edition where he was selected due to injury.

His teammate at KTM Canada, Jess Pettis is Canadian 450 champion this year. He joined Team Canada three times, in 2018, 2023 and 2024.

Third teammate Dylan Wright is the 2023 Canadian 450 champion, on Honda. He has been selected for the last four events, from 2021 to 2024.

On Saturday in qualifying, the Canadian team obtained the 17the place, which opened the doors to the A final.

On Sunday for the finals, in race 1 MX2, Jess Pettis #70 was 24e position and Kaven Benoit #71 at 36e.

In race 2 MX2 Open, Dylan Wright #72 took 23e place and Kaven Benoit finished in 35e position.

In the third race, Dylan Wright achieved a small feat by holding off Jorge Prado who has just been crowned MXGP world champion. He finished at 13e place, while Jess Pettis took 22e position.

Finally, Canada was positioned at 15e place in the Motocross of Nations, out of 36 countries represented.

Globally

The Australian team made up of Hunter Lawrence in MXGP, Kyle Webster in MX2 and the young Jett Lawrence in MX Open managed to repel the attacks of Team USA. The latter, composed of Eli Tomac, Cooper Webb and Aaron Plessinger, obtained second place in the general classification, while the Team Netherlands trio of Jeffrey Herlings, Kay de Wolf and Glenn Coldenhoff completed the podium. Spain and entered the top 5.

Despite very wet conditions on Sunday, the track was very popular with the drivers, and it gave rise to three memorable races for the spectators, who numbered several tens of thousands of people.

In the general classification “ overall “, the event was won by Jett Lawrence of the Australian team, who also won race 2 MX2/Open. He was named winner of the Ricky Carmichael Award for the youngest and best driver in the category.

Another rider stood out during the event, Slovenian Tim Gajser, who won the MXGP and MXGP/MX2 categories.

The 2025 Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations will take place at Ironman Raceway in Indiana, United States.
