Foxconn builds ‘world’s largest production site’ for Nvidia superchips

This mega-factory should allow Foxconn to meet the growing demand for Nvidia graphics chips since the renewed interest in artificial intelligence technologies in recent years.

Taiwanese technology giant Foxconn announced on Tuesday that it was building the world’s largest production site for American Nvidia’s GB200 graphics “super chips”.

“We are building the largest GB200 production facility on the planet,” Benjamin Ting, vice president of cloud solutions (remote computing) at Foxconn, said at the company’s annual Hon Hai Tech Day. without giving more details about the location.

Graphics chips are chips with increased computing capabilities, essential for the development of artificial intelligence (AI) which generates images in particular.

Expanded partnership with Nvidia

Foxconn, also known by its official name “Hon Hai Precision Industry”, supplies electronic components to major global tech companies, including Apple.

The Taiwanese group already announced last year that it was partnering with Nvidia to create “AI factories”, powerful data processing centers that would stimulate the design of next-generation products.

Unlike its competitors Intel, Micron and Texas Instruments, Foxconn does not design its graphics chips itself, but uses subcontractors. At the opening of the two-day event, Foxconn Chairman Young Liu said the company would be “the first to deliver these super chips.”

Aiming to expand beyond electronic assembly, the group has diversified into servers, semiconductors and electric vehicles. Foxconn is expected to unveil new electric vehicle models during its “Hon Hai Tech Day” event, as it has done in previous editions.
