Hostage Idan Shtivi was killed on October 7; his body is detained in Gaza – Families Forum

The Hostages’ Families Forum announced Monday morning that Idan Shtivi, detained in Gaza, was killed during the October 7 attack and that his body is still being held by Hamas.

The Israeli army has not commented on this information and the forum does not provide details on why they confirmed Shtivi’s death.

Shtivi, 28, was taken hostage by Hamas terrorists at the Nova desert rave, where he had volunteered to photograph the event.

He joined the party at 6 a.m. and called his girlfriend at 7 a.m. to tell her that missiles were flying over him and that he was leaving the area.

Shtivi took her car with two friends, Lior and Yulia, but they were stopped by the terrorists on the road heading north. He turned southbound but swerved, lost control of his vehicle and struck a tree.

It was there that he was last seen: his car was later found, riddled with bullets and stained with blood. The bodies of his friends were found, but not that of Shtivi, whom the police reported as being among the hostages held in Gaza.

105 civilians were freed during a week-long truce at the end of November, and four hostages were released before the truce. Eight hostages, including a female soldier, were rescued alive by Israeli forces, and the bodies of 37 hostages were also recovered, three of whom were mistakenly killed by the army in a tragic incident in December.

Hamas has also held the bodies of IDF soldiers Oron Shaul and Hadar Goldin since 2014, as well as two Israeli civilians, Avera Mengistu and Hisham al-Sayed, both of whom are believed to be alive after entering the Gaza Strip from on their own in 2014 and 2015 respectively.
