Scams are increasing. You must be extra vigilant to avoid being the victim of a scam like this one, which goes by the name “gold scam”.

A scam called the “gold scam” is becoming more and more talked about. The authorities call for caution and explain what it consists of. Here’s everything you need to know.

Very similar to other scams in its design, the gold scam initially consists of faking an accident or breakdown. This allows the scammer to get the attention of passing motorists.

Money for fake jewelry

Once the target is stopped and the conversation begins, the criminals say they have a problem with their vehicle and need money to resolve it. It could be a necessary repair, a lack of fuel or even a toll to pass. They explain that they have no cash on them and ask for an exchange: money, in cash, for valuable jewelry. These accessories are obviously fake parts, fake.

The authorities warn against this new form of scam and invite motorists to never stop when they come across a suspicious vehicle. On the contrary, the police advise collecting possible information and transmitting it to the police so that an investigation can be carried out.

This is particularly what made it possible to identify a gray car, located in the town of Evry, practicing this scam.

A wide variety of flight techniques

Note that this practice resembles several others such as the so-called “Peruvian style” which also consists of using the excuse of a breakdown or an emergency situation to cause motorists to stop. The feigned urgency here is only a bait to divert the victim from the scam. Indeed, once the motorist gets out of his vehicle, an accomplice of the scammer gets into the targeted car and steals the victim’s belongings.

Recently, in the south of , another type of scam has been talked about. The criminals claim to have been hit by another motorist and demand financial compensation, in cash and immediately, so as not to make a report. A ploy that some people manage to defuse perfectly.
