“Few French people can give the names and number of French Jews held hostage by Hamas”

INTERVIEW – In a book that has just been published, French victims of Hamas. Their story, our silence (L’Observatoire), the journalist from Marianne denounces the indifference towards the French hostages of October 7. And points to the responsibility of the left.

LE FIGARO. – Your book opens with an observation : according to you, the 43 French victims of the 7 October 2023 were « erased from our political debates » . How to explain it ?

RACHEL BINHAS. – Indeed, I emphasize that the place given to them in public space is extremely small. It is even more so if we look at the media and social coverage given to the hostages in the past: Ingrid Betancourt, Jean-Paul Kauffmann, Christian Chesnot or Georges Malbrunot…

Today, few French people, including journalists, can give the names and number of French Jews held hostage by Hamas in Gaza. My book starts from this invisibilization.
