Germany: Leipzig wins at Heidenheim 1-0 and puts pressure on Bayern

Leipzig temporarily took the lead by winning 1-0 on Sunday at Heidenheim (8th), during the 6th day of the German championship.

The RB, still undefeated, is one point ahead of Bayern Munich who will try to regain their possession during their trip to Frankfurt (3rd) at the end of the afternoon, during this day’s clash.

Without being brilliant, Leipzig ended its week on a good note, four days after an epic match lost at home to Juventus in the Champions League. The Germans, who led 2-1, lost 3-2 against the Italians, who were reduced to 10 men at the hour mark.

During a very dull first period against Heidenheim, we had to wait until the 42nd minute to see the first real opportunity. Leipzig attacking midfielder Xavi Simons faced the Heidenheim goalkeeper, but Kevin Müller won the duel by putting his body in opposition.

Leipzig thought they could resolve the situation after returning from the locker room, but Benjamin Sesko’s header, receiving a corner, was canceled after consultation with the VAR (53rd) for a foul by the Slovenian.

Deliverance came from Loïs Openda. Perfectly launched from deep by Antonio Nusa, the former player scored his fourth goal in the league (59th).

Jan Schöppner almost equalized for Heidenheim but his long shot found the crossbar (68th). In the process, Simons missed the opportunity to make the break for Leipzig.

At the end of the match, Heidenheim pushed to snatch a draw, but RB goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi saved his team with a double save (73rd), then another in added time (90+3).
