Ivan Leko, Standard coach: ‘Anderlecht deserves the victory, but the score is forced’

Thanks to the goals of Jan-Carlo Simic (9e), de Kasper Dolberg (30th) andAnders Dreyer (90th+2), Sporting Anderlecht won the first Belgian Clasico of the season against Standard (3-0) on the 10th day of the Pro League this Sunday.

It came down to details. We started well then we made individual errors. At 2-0 at the break, you have to open the match to try to come back. Anderlecht deserves the victory, but the score is forced. We started the season with difficulty creating opportunities. It wasn’t particularly nice to see and we now want to improve our game. The reality is that we are making the team evolve. This change has not borne fruit in the last two meetings. Are we going to go back to our old animation? You know, it’s not just a matter of playing with a striker or two. Based on the numbers, we would have deserved to win against Westerlo and Anderlecht (editor’s note: the Rouches had more shots and more expected goals than the Mauves), but we end up with two defeats in as many matches.”clarified Ivan Leko at the microphone of the Pro League.

We were ready for the short corner kick phase on the first goal. We knew it could happen, but it was especially the players in the rectangle who could have done better. Matthew Epolo ? He could have done better on the first two goals, but he is so young. He is only 19 years old“, also noted the Standard de Liège coach.
