What to remember from the victory against ?

Last night, AS Saint-Etienne won their match against AJ (3-1). A success acquired with style in a Cauldron that is finally full. But beyond the 3 points, what should we remember from this 2nd victory of the ASSE season?

17th in Ligue 1 before their match against Auxerre, the Greens had no other option than to achieve a result at Geoffroy-Guichard. Led by a great Zuriko Davitashvhili, ASSE enjoyed a second success of the season. Now 12th in the standings before the end of the 7th day, the Saint-Etienne club can take a breather. However, everything was not perfect against AJ Auxerre. But Olivier Dall’Oglio will finally be able to work with a united group capable of winning.

Geoffroy-Guichard smiles at ASSE

It was a trend before this 7th day of Ligue 1. It is now a fact. ASSE shines much more at home than away. However, we must put the term “glasses“, as the Greens have had a catastrophic start to the season. But ASSE’s 2 victories were won at home. 6 points out of 7, or 85% of points taken from Geoffroy-Guichard. In terms of statistics, the Saint-Etienne attack scored 4 goals at home, against 2 away.

Same dynamic in defense. ASSE conceded only 3 goals on home soil, compared to 15 away. A figure to be qualified, 8 goals having been conceded during the rout against . The Greens will now have to confirm this dynamic during the 8th day of Ligue 1. ASSE faces RC at home. So, will Geoffroy-Guichard be the savior of the 2024/25 season for the Greens?

Davitashvili offers Olivier Dall’Oglio a reprieve

If you didn’t know him before his hat-trick, we have drawn up a portrait of Zuriko Davitashvili for you. Hero of the victory against Auxerre, the Georgian could well be the symbol of the renewal of ASSE. Davitashvili’s hat-trick will have an immediate impact on the club. Pushed towards the exit, Olivier Dall’Oglio should remain on the Saint-Etienne bench until the next day. Enough to allow ASSE to work during the break to definitively leave the bottom of the Ligue 1 ranking.

Another goal conceded: the Greens’ defense worries

Attention ! Zuriko Davitashvili’s hat-trick must not be the tree that hides the forest. Certainly, this victory allowed Geoffroy-Guichard’s kops to smile again. But everything is not to be remembered in this meeting against Auxerre. The defensive sector is notably one of the big flops of the ASSE match. For the 18th time this season, Gautier Larsonneur went to get a ball in his net. Feverish, the green defense found itself overwhelmed on several occasions.

The Greens even have the worst goal average of Ligue 1 (-12), ahead of (-11). An element far from trivial, when we know how intense the fight to not be relegated promises to be. Olivier Dall’Oglio maintained his confidence in Mickaël Nadé, but it will take more for ASSE’s defense to become a factor in remaining in Ligue 1.

5 goals in 2 matches… but an ineffective attack!

With 6 goals scored in 7 days, the ASSE attack is far from impressive. Certainly, there has been improvement in the last two matches. But behind the flattering figures lies a fact: the Saint-Etienne attack is not skillful in front of goal. Last night, the Greens had 13 shots on goal. Only 5 of these attempts were on target. Certainly, Zuriko Davitashvili scored his hat-trick, and Ben Old finally showed his availability on the right flank.

But the result could have been completely different if Auxerre had pushed even more in the second half. In the future, ASSE will have to be much sharper in attack, otherwise they will be sanctioned. Not a scorer but interesting in a pivotal role, Sissoko once again scored points. Olivier Dall’Oglio will therefore be able to work with an attacking trio composed of the Malian, Ben Old and Davitashvili to confirm ASSE’s surge. Be careful, however, of being overconfident. Certainly, the Greens are doing better. But everything is far from having been perfect, and this victory comes in a duel against a team promoted from Ligue 2.

Nostalgic for the Greens, I rely on Klopp’s Reds to keep me smiling. In search of thrills thanks to high mountain sports, I thrill in front of my TV through tennis, basketball, football and winter sports. Looking forward to being behind the French team during the Olympic Games!
