Middle East: Trump says Israel should ‘strike’ Iranian nuclear facilities

The doctrine is very different from that of Joe Biden. On Friday, Donald Trump said that Israel should “strike” Iranian nuclear facilities, in particular in response to the missiles fired at the Hebrew state on Tuesday, four days after the assassination of the leader of the Lebanese movement Hassan Nasrallah, in an Israeli raid near from Beirut.

Speaking in North Carolina, the Republican candidate for the White House referred to a question posed to the Democratic US president midweek about the possibility of Israel targeting Iranian nuclear facilities.

“They asked him this question, the answer should have been: strike nuclear first and worry about the rest later », Launched Donald Trump. “But we will see what their plans are,” added the former Republican president.

“Respond proportionately”

On Wednesday, Joe Biden declared himself opposed to Israeli strikes against Iranian nuclear facilities, in response to the firing of nearly 200 Iranian missiles towards Israel. “The answer is no,” Joe Biden told reporters, when asked about his possible support for such action by Israel.

“All seven of us agree that the Israelis have the right to retaliate, but they must respond proportionately,” he added, referring to other G7 leaders.

Donald Trump has until now been particularly silent on the recent escalation in the Middle East. He simply issued a scathing statement earlier this week, holding President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris responsible for the explosion of tensions.
