Major operation for the security forces on Friday afternoon: Heavy smoke rose from a house on Eupen’s Kaperberg shortly before twelve o’clock. Fortunately, the fire brigade and police were quickly on site. Thanks to quick intervention, something worse was prevented and the source of the fire was prevented from spreading to the surrounding houses. However, any help came too late for a four-legged friend.

“Unfortunately, we were unable to save one of the two dogs that were in the house at the time of the accident,” explained zone commander Francis Cloth to GrenzEcho when asked.

Although the exact cause of the fire has not yet been clarified by experts, the emergency services are assuming an “accident caused by an electrical device”. This caused a lot of smoke to develop, which spread throughout the entire building. “The fire had already spread significantly when we arrived. Ten minutes later and surrounding houses would probably also have been affected,” was the assessment of the zone commander, who was himself on site.

There were no people in the building at the time of the accident, but there were two dogs. Only one of the two four-legged friends was able to be saved by the emergency services.

During the operation, the Kaperberg was closed to traffic. At 1:15 p.m. the fire extinguishing work was completed so that the police were able to reopen the road. (mcfly/mo)
