Charlie Hebdo: Peter Cherif sentenced to life imprisonment

Peter Cherif was sentenced to life imprisonment, with a security period of 22 years, this Thursday, October 3, by the special assize court of , assure several media. The 42-year-old jihadist is convicted of criminal terrorist association. He had been facing court since September 16, notably for his role with Chérif Kouachi, one of the attackers of Charlie Hebdo on January 7, 2015 who left twelve victims.

Peter Cherif had joined the ranks of Al-Qaeda in Yemen, where he stayed from 2011 to 2018. He was accused of having trained and pushed Kouachi to commit the attack against the satirical newspaper and of having kidnapped in an organized gang in 2011, for five months, three French members of an NGO.

He is condemned for having “facilitated integration” by Chérif Kouachi “by introducing him to Anwar al-Awlaqi, a radical American-Yemeni preacher, senior official of the terrorist organization, killed by drone in September 2011. But his complicity in these attacks of January 2015 could not be demonstrated”selon FranceInfo.
