The world of cinema is still in shock. This Friday, October 4, Michel Blanc, an actor as talented as he was generous, took his last breath at the age of 72. According to information from BFMTV, the actor died of a heart attack, following a rare allergic reaction called anaphylactic shock. This allergy would have been caused by taking a medication during a medical examination.
“I might not have been a good father.”
The brutal disappearance of Michel Blanc aroused deep sadness among all those close to him. “Fuck, Michel, what did you do to us?”, his great friend from Splendid Gérard Jugnot immediately reacted on social networks to the announcement of his disappearance, around 1 a.m. All his acolytes from the Splendid troupe (Josiane Balasko, Marie-Anne Chazel, Christian Clavier, Gérard Jugnot, Thierry Lhermitte, Bruno Moynot) expressed their “immense pain” in a press release.
Michel Blanc also leaves behind his discreet companion Ramatoulaye Diop, with whom he was in a relationship for fifteen years. The actor, however, never had children. A choice that he assured he would not regret during an interview given to Ciné Télé Revue in 2023. “It never came up in my life, even if with my partner I said to myself, ‘yes, maybe’, but I decided too late,” he revealed. For Michel Blanc, this decision was the best one to make. “It would have been ‘your grandfather is coming to pick you up from school’, I wanted to avoid that. By mutual agreement, we said to ourselves that it would be crazy. Maybe it’s better this way”, he said before concluding: “I might not have been a good father. I would have passed on my neuroses, there’s no point.”
A few years earlier, in 2015, Michel Blanc explained in an interview with Paris Match having obviously already wondered about the possibility of becoming a father but not having taken the plunge because of his own childhood: “I was my parents’ priority and I was able to ask myself if I would be able to have another priority than my little self.”
