subsidies to take over the track and renovate the racecourse riding arena

Thursday afternoon, elected officials from the South Arcachon Basin Urban Community (Cobas) packed the council in an hour and a quarter for 24 deliberations. So it didn’t take long. They began the session with two deliberations concerning housing. In particular, they validated the partnership plan for managing the demand for social housing.

The main thing in this file comes down to the approval of a grid for rating the demand for social housing. It is in fact a system for classifying requests, an important decision-making aid. We must now wait for the State’s opinion on the subject. The four municipal social action centers of the four towns of Cobas worked on it to meet the reality of the demands. “The grid establishes priorities,” explains May Antoun (Arcachon). The aim is to accommodate locals and encourage workers. This grid will be evaluated to make it evolve if necessary. » “For example, being a volunteer firefighter in a city brings points to obtain social housing,” added Marie-Hélène des Esgaulx, various right-wing mayor of Gujan-Mestras and president of Cobas.

Resumption of the track

In addition, elected officials also voted for funding for work at the Becquet racecourse, in La Teste-de-Buch. This, managed by the Société des Courses, has a national reputation and more than 125 races take place there per year (11 of them are even used for national betting). It is “a major economic and tourist center with around a hundred people working there throughout the year. As such, a young workers’ center, as well as a training center, has been attached to it in order to meet the expectations of professionals and the equine industry.

And this second large training center in the southwest (the fourth in ) needs work, with the resumption of the horse track and the renovation of the riding school. The total amount amounts to 135,233 euros. Cobas will finance 80% of it.
