A gas leak blocks Boulevard des Moulins for more than an hour

A gas leak on Boulevard des Moulins in Monaco caused a temporary closure of the road on Wednesday October 2. The incident occurred at number 41, where a gas meter malfunction required the intervention of the Monaco firefighters and the Société Monégasque de l’Électrcité et du Gaz (SMEG).

A worker on the boulevard first noticed a suspicious smell of gas and alerted the authorities. The leak, difficult to locate initially, was identified using SMEG detection instruments on a connection box connected to the SMEG network.

Eighteen firefighters and five vehicles were dispatched to the scene, with the operation gradually intensifying. Despite the minor nature of the leak, SMEG indicated that the “precautionary principle was applied”, leading to the cutting of the gas supply and the closure of the boulevard to traffic from 1:45 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. A security perimeter was also established by Public Security agents during the intervention. Final repairs to the connection box are currently underway, according to SMEG.
