400 to 500 high school students gathered

According to our information, it was during a gathering of 400 to 500 high school students that young people set fire to the vehicle and trash cans. They also allegedly stoned the tram.

The union sections of the school campus mention, in a press release, “numerous mortar shots, some of which were aimed at staff” as well as “smoke bombs”, some of which allegedly reached the lodge and the facade of the school. establishment.

They also claim that staff “arriving by car at the school were targeted by stone throwing”.

“These unacceptable events take place in a context of growing tensions accentuated by the unprecedented shortage of human resources at the start of the school year,” the unions denounce. Staff have alerted the rectorate on numerous occasions since the previous year and during two hearings […] However, the rectorate deliberately chose to ignore these alerts. »

Return to calm around 9 a.m.

At 9 a.m., the fire was extinguished and the circulation of the T4 tram, interrupted for a while between Lumière high school and Vénissieux train station, was able to gradually resume.

One person was arrested by the police, who also intervened on site. Reinforced patrols will be put in place morning and evening at times of entry and exit from the establishment, with the rectorate and prefecture intending to closely monitor the situation.

As the establishment remained open, classes would not have been disrupted.
