Death of Matthew Perry: Doctor linked to Friends star’s death pleads guilty

The investigation into the death of Matthew Perry is moving forward. On Wednesday October 2, the American press revealed that one of the two doctors incriminated in his disappearance had pleaded guilty to “conspiracy to sell ketamine“, the drug which was fatal to the actor of Friends.

Almost a year after the death of Matthew Perrythe men responsible for the tragedy will soon know their sentence. On October 28, 2023, the iconic actor of Friends was found dead, drowned in the hot tub of his property in Los Angeles. Very quickly, analyzes showed that the actor had died from a large dose of ketamine. A discovery which marked the start of a long investigation, carried out in the shadows, before the publicity in August: five people were arrested as part of the investigation which brought to light a vast ketamine trafficking network, aiming to use the actor’s addiction to enrich themselves. Among the accused, Matthew Perry’s personal assistant who administered the doses to him, a dealer but also two doctors who prescribed him prescriptions. Two of them also risk life imprisonment during the trial which will begin in 2025.

But for Mark Chavezone of the two doctors on the dock, the legal case has already reached an important turning point. As revealed by the American press, notably CNNthe latter has pleaded guilty to “conspiracy to sell ketamine. He actually made a deal with prosecutors on August 30 during his appearance before the judge, during which he also surrendered his medical license.

Mark Chavez will now have to wait until April 2, 2025 to know his sentence, which could be less severe than that of some of his co-defendants, who have not yet chosen to plead guilty: at most, he can only be sentenced to 10 years of criminal imprisonment. The other doctor, Salvador Plasencia, has pleaded not guilty and will be tried from March 4, 2025 with Jasveen Sangha, the ketamine dealer who also chose to plead not guilty.
