Double celebration yesterday in the premises of the Indian Embassy in Madagascar located in Tsaralalàna. Indeed, the International Day of Non-Violence is celebrated every October 2 each year, since August 15, 2007, after its adoption by the United Nations General Assembly.
This date coincides with the celebration of the 155th birthday of Mahatma Gandhi, the father of the Indian Nation, who was born on October 2, 1869 in Porbandar, on the west coast of India.
Gandhi is precisely the emblematic figure of peace, having led India to free itself from British colonialism.
Not only did he pioneer the unique non-violent path to achieving freedom, but he also proved to the world that freedom can be achieved peacefully, said the Chargé d’affaires of the Embassy of the India, Ms. Alka Sarkar, in her speech.
The Malagasy State, represented by the Minister of Fisheries and the Blue Economy, Tsimanaoraty Paubert Mahatante as well as several other personalities from the National Assembly and the Senate, but also members of the diplomatic corps in Madagascar, honored this commemoration friendly symbolic of their presence.
« The Indian country has always supported us in various fields, such as trade, agriculture and very soon the blue economy », Specified the Minister of Fisheries and the Blue Economy yesterday, adding that “ Indians and Africans have always lived together, like Mahatma Gandhi who lived for 21 years in South Africa “. This celebration serves as a reminder that Indian and Malagasy cultures have similarities, according to him.
Students of the Hindi class at the embassy also marked the ceremony by reciting poems in honor of Gandhi. This celebration also aims to highlight the life of Mahatma Gandhi, his thoughts, his writings which were all far beyond his time and are as relevant today as they were in his time.
