Celestial shows: what to see in the Algerian sky in October 2024?

The nights are now longer than the days, giving plenty of time to admire the beauty of the autumn sky. The CRAAG has unveiled its selection of astronomical events which will mark the month of October 2024.

The autumnal sky of October promises exceptional nighttime celestial shows. It marks the meetings of the Moon with Jupiter, Saturn and Mars, but also a shower of shooting stars from the Draconids.

Astronomical events to observe in the Algerian sky in October 2024

Like every beginning of the month, the astronomy, astrophysics and geophysics research center, CRAAG, unveils its selection of celestial events to observe in the Algerian sky. The center is scheduled for October 8, 2024, to observe the peak of the Draconids shooting star shower.

As of October 14, 2024, Algerian citizens will be able to observe with the naked eye, or with binoculars, a lunar occultation of Saturn. The Moon, 88.3% illuminated, will be close to Saturn. The two stars will be in the constellation Aquarius.

Furthermore, the CRAAG is meeting on October 19 to admire the rapprochement of the moon with the Pleiades. On October 20, a new celestial spectacle takes place in the sky to admire a peak of the Orionid meteor shower.

Approaching the Moon with Mars and Jupiter

Algerian citizens will also be there with a new rapprochement of the moon with Jupiter. During this astronomical spectacle, the two stars will be in the constellation Taurus, the event will be visible to the naked eye from Algeria.

In addition, the astronomy, astrophysics and geophysics research center also offers Algerian citizens to monitor the night of October 23, 2024 to admire another event. Tonight, the Moon, 64% illuminated, will be close to Mars in the constellation Gemini.

The CRAAG promises to return to the details of each event to allow Algerian citizens to admire these celestial beauties.
