Nearly 180 demonstrations are announced in France on Tuesday October 1, 2024, at the call of the CGT, FSU, Unef and Solidaires unions.
This same day when the new Prime Minister Michel Barnier is expected to make the general policy declaration, when the different political camps are divided on the question of a possible tax increase.
In the street, the inter-union intends to take to the streets to denounce the appointment of Michel Barnier who “turns his back on the vote of French people”, believes the CGT. “Not only does Emmanuel Macron ignore the front which prevented the far right from coming to power, but the social setbacks, rejected at the polls, will continue and risk even getting worse with the support of the RN” .
The inter-union calls for mobilization for better protection of public services and the repeal of the pension reform. “The budgetary austerity organized by the resigning government and taken up by the new Prime Minister is as worrying as it is unacceptable. The CGT, the FSU and Solidaires together reaffirm the need to restore the means of operation in all aspects and sectors of the Function “Budgets for 2025 must be increased to meet all needs”, write the unions in a joint press release.
However, no appeal was issued by the FO, CFDT, Unsa, CFE-CGC and CFTC unions.
In transport
Train traffic could be disrupted on Tuesday, with the call for a strike by the CGT and Sud-Rail, thus adding to the mobilization of October 1 launched by the inter-union. According to the railway company’s forecasts, TGVs would not be impacted but difficulties could be felt in certain TER and Intercirés.
SNCF Voyageurs will communicate precise forecasts the day before the mobilization, at the end of the afternoon this Monday.
In education and public service
The call for strike is also launched in schools. “For our salaries, our pensions, to finally obtain positions and the end of the shock of knowledge”, communicates the CGT Educ’action. Mobilization within the public service could impact school canteens.
“For several weeks, the presidential camp and the right have been preparing the ground for new austerity measures. While Bruno Le Maire speaks of a ‘slippage in public accounts’, Michel Barnier announces in front of caregivers that he will not be able to to perform ‘miracles’ This little liberal music serves to establish the idea that austerity is inevitable”, denounces the Snes-FSU. While calling for additional resources in education and recalling, according to a union survey, that a teacher was missing in 56% of middle and high schools in France as of September 5, 2024.
In energy
The FNME-CGT calls for “an energy strike”, asking electricity and gas workers to go on strike for 24 hours starting Monday, September 30, at 9 p.m. “Salaries, pensions, public services: everything is at stake. The government continues to ignore our demands, but together we can make the difference. The CGT is calling for a massive mobilization to demand the repeal of the retirement law and demand more of social justice.
