INTERVIEW – Western Sahara, accusations linked to colonization, 1968 agreements, the historian reacts to the multiple disputes which have opposed Algeria and for sixty years, and often result from sterile postures.

The war, led by France from 1954 to 1962, left enormous scars, which are still present. Professor emeritus at Sorbonne University and great specialist in the history of colonization in Algeria, Jacques Frémeaux questions the reasons for the difficult reconciliation between the two countries, more than half a century later. He publishes The Algerian War published by Cerf.

LE FIGARO. – The recognition by of the “Moroccanness” of Western Sahara and the questioning by the Minister of the Interior, Bruno Retailleau, of the 1968 agreements which facilitate the movement, employment and stay of Algerian nationals in France have contributed to new tension between the two countries.
