Betrayed by defensive errors, Standard loses at home to Westerlo

Early goal and three posts

Despite a desire to play forward from the kick-off, Standard were caught cold after just six minutes. On the left side, Jordan Bos overtakes Boško Šutalo before serving perfectly Matija Frigancompletely forgotten in the area (0-1, 6th).

The Rouches are stunned, but concentrate on offering an interesting offensive game with a lot of movement and attempts to infiltrate. On a corner from Marko Bulat, Dennis Eckert and Nathan Ngoy narrowly missed the equalizer by each finding the post (16th).

But if there are people in front, Leko’s rearguard is much more crumbly. Taking advantage of a poor alignment of the Liège defenders, Frigan came close to a double by finding Matthieu Epolo’s post (29th).

A short-lived joy

Returning from the locker room, the Rouches finally manage to find the fault in the Campinois block. Touched by Bryan Reynolds in the area, Ilay Camara obtains a penalty whichAndi Zeqiri se charge de transformer (1-1, 63e).

Sclessin roared with pleasure, but not for long. One minute after equalization, Frigan is forgotten by the Liège defense and airs up the entire stadium with a dry strike at the near post (1-2, 64th).

Standard tried as best they could to come back to the score during the last half hour, but the accuracy was not there. Isaac Price has the equalizer at the end of the match, but his off-center shot goes over Sinan Bolat’s goal (89th). Solid throughout the match, Westerlo held the score and returned to victory after five unsuccessful matches.
