Hurricane Helene, which passed through Florida and Georgia this Thursday and Friday, hit Augusta and its legendary golf course, host of the Masters, the Augusta National Golf Club.

The hurricane Helenedowngraded to a tropical storm this Friday morning, caused damage, a lot of damage. The first reports showed 17 deaths at the dawn of the weekend.

Among the most affected places, the state of Georgia and its capital Atlanta suffered greatly. The city of 500,000 inhabitants was flooded. This is also the case in Augusta where more than 200,000 people were deprived of electricity after winds exceeding 100 km/h.

Downed trees and overflowing stream

If this of course remains secondary to the human drama, the most famous golf course in the city and perhaps in the world, theAugusta National Golf Clubalso suffered heavy damage. In the first images, it is difficult to recognize the route which saw the triumph Scottie Scheffler last April.

In fact, many trees are down and tractors were already at work during the day. According to initial information, more than 100 trees were affected on the par 72 which has hosted the legendary Masters.

The Rae’s Creeka stream located on the outskirts of 11 and 12, has largely overflowed, partly covering these two holes constituting the famous Amen Corner (with the 13). This is not expected to improve quickly, as the city is still on flood alert…
