E.Leclerc: a 2024 wine fair that adapts to fashions

What should you expect in the approximately 600 Leclerc stores participating in the operation? The brand recognizes a difficult wine fair context with a drop in its turnover of 3% last year. This year, therefore, change of strategy with more light and fruity wines to meet a growing demand from enthusiasts for this type of bottle. Wines that “exude freshness” chosen for their financially and taste-friendly aspects. E.Leclerc has renewed 53% of its wine fair selection for 2023 and has doubled the number of sparkling wines in its national catalog. Champagne, considered expensive and showing a drop in sales, will be reduced in 2024 in favor of other types of bubbles such as crémants, Italian proseccos or Spanish cavas.

While consumption of red wine is decreasing in France, the brand has increased its share of white wines, particularly from Languedoc and the Valley. Also, more surprising wines from lesser-known appellations and grape varieties are also on the program, alongside more classic references which are showing good sales. Some of these best-sellers17 in number, benefit from a -50% reduction on the second bottle purchased.

E.Leclerc wine fairs 2024: what to choose?

Leclerc brings together a selection of 65 wines called “Incroyables”, of which 45 wines are less than 10 euros. Among them, we find at 11 euros the Savennières 2023 vintage from Domaine Jo Pithon in the Loire, the great wine from Château Reignac 2022 ( Supérieur) at 18 euros, or two wines from winemaker Gérard Bertrand, La Sauvageonne “Cuvée Les Ruffes “2022 at 11 euros and the red wine “Comme un oiseau sur la Branche” 2023 at 5.50 euros (outside the “Incredibles” selection).

Andreas Larsson, best sommelier in the world in 2007 responsible for developing the brand’s selection, spotted two additional favorites: the Beaujolais Vieilles Vignes 2023 vintage in AOC Morgon from winemaker Arnaud Aucœur, the Côtes-du-Rhône villages red “Éole” 2022 from Château Courac.
