four years suspended prison sentence required against ex-drug boss

Suspected of having organized false custody of a drug trafficker in order to recruit him as an informant, François Thierry has been on trial in since Monday. The prosecutor requested a permanent ban on holding public office, with immediate effect.

Four years of suspended prison time were requested on Friday against the former boss of “narcotics”, François Thierry, tried in Lyon for having organized a false custody of a drug trafficker, to recruit him as an informant.

In his indictment, Advocate General Vincent Auger denounced a “police and legal disaster” powered by “megalomania” et “an ethical drift” of François Thierry, against whom he also requested a definitive ban on holding public office, with immediate effect.

7 tonnes of cannabis seized in

Media expert and brilliant boss of the fight against drugs, François Thierry saw his building derailed at the end of 2015 after a controlled delivery of cannabis which resulted in the seizure of 7 tonnes of this drug in the center of Paris. In this case, he is accused of having drawn up a false police custody report to justify the extraction from prison, in April 2012, of a major cannabis trafficker whom he had recruited as an informant, Sofiane Hambli.

The police commissioner had acknowledged the facts while refuting any offense, on the grounds that the measure had been taken in consultation, according to him, with magistrates from the Paris public prosecutor’s office. Heard during the investigation, the latter however denied having been aware of a false preliminary investigation, affirming that they then trusted the director of the anti-narcotics office.

In the main part of the so-called Ocrtis affair, investigated in and which concerns the record seizure in the heart of Paris in 2015 by customs of 7 tonnes of cannabis, François Thierry has been indicted since August 2017 for complicity in drug trafficking. The investigation showed that the drugs had arrived in as part of a controlled delivery, operated by Ocrtis with the help of Sofiane Hambli. François Thierry is suspected of having favored the importation of the goods without having fully informed the judicial authority of the terms of the operation, nor of his proximity to this informant whom he managed directly.
