Emmanuel Macron on state visit to Morocco at the end of October

Several times announced and without follow-up, French President Emmanuel Macron would make a state visit to Morocco at the end of October, marking a turning point in relations between the two countries. This visit, the first since his re-election, symbolizes a new impetus in bilateral relations, which today have been considerably strengthened since ’s support for the Moroccan character of the Sahara.

Following a letter of invitation sent Thursday to the French president by King Mohammed VI in which the Sovereign “is delighted with the promising horizons that are emerging for our two countries”, specified the French presidency, according to Médias24, Emmanuel Macron will begin a visit of State in Morocco at the end of October.

France’s reaffirmation of its favorable position on the Moroccan character of the Sahara constituted a determining factor in the strengthening of diplomatic ties between and Rabat. This support, crucial for the Kingdom, was welcomed with satisfaction, paving the way for a deepening of economic collaboration. Consequently, Morocco sees France as a strategic ally capable of supporting its development, particularly in its southern territories.

On the sidelines of this visit, a large French delegation will accompany President Macron to Rabat to sign a bilateral road map. Focused on the economic, agricultural, energy, cultural and educational areas, this initiative illustrates the desire of the two nations to intensify their collaboration in key sectors.
The next visit of the French president could also definitively bury the visa crisis which has long undermined the two countries, a pitfall which has caused a lot of ink to flow to the point of pushing some Moroccans to choose other destinations for studies or vacations.

At the center of the strengthened cooperation between the two countries is the economic question. French companies, already present in Morocco, are encouraged to increase their investments, particularly in the southern provinces. This project is part of a desire to support the economic development of this strategic region.

France’s commitment to supporting Morocco’s economic development is expressed by the presence of French companies in the industrial, infrastructure and services sectors.

In addition, the energy sector is a major pillar of this roadmap. Morocco, recognized for its ambitions in renewable energy, is seeking to strengthen its collaboration with France in innovative projects such as solar, wind and green hydrogen. This energy cooperation is part of global ecological transition efforts, especially in a global context of the fight against climate change.

In the agricultural field, Morocco and France are planning joint projects aimed at modernizing agricultural techniques, improving food security and promoting sustainable agriculture. Partnerships will include knowledge exchanges on innovative agricultural practices and training programs for Moroccan farmers.

Alongside the economic aspects, the cultural relationship between Morocco and France constitutes a solid foundation on which this reinforced cooperation is built. Joint cultural initiatives aim to promote intercultural dialogue and celebrate the richness of respective heritages. Festivals, exhibitions and cultural events will provide platforms to encourage artistic and intellectual exchanges.
