It’s a pretty big sum at stake this Friday, September 27, 2024 at EuroMillions, after Tuesday’s draw, where the 64 million euros offered did not find any takers. La Française des jeux (FDJ) is indeed announcing a mega jackpot of 130 million euros Friday.

Either almost double the previous drawa colossal sum. But why then in just a few days has the jackpot skyrocketed so much? We’ll explain it to you.

How does EuroMillions work?

To fully understand what is going on, a reminder of how EuroMillions works is necessary.

The winnings are distributed over several levels which we call ranks. And the amounts vary depending on the number of correct numbers.

The jackpot corresponds to rank 1. If there are several winners who match the five correct numbers and the two star numbers, this jackpot is divided between the winners. The same operation applies for winnings of lower ranks.

Aside from the jackpot, winnings can range from a few euros for basic combinations to hundreds of thousands of euros for intermediate ranks.

The jackpot starts at 17 millions d’euros minimum. “In the continued absence of a rank 1 winner, the jackpot increases with each drawing depending on the bets made, up to a “first rank ceiling” which is defined today at 250 million euros” , explains the FDJ on its site.

Once this level is reached, this jackpot can be brought back into play for a maximum of four successive draws. If there is still no winner, it is “automatically redistributed to the second-ranked winner(s).

A guaranteed millionaire in every EuroMillions draw

In each draw, a My million number is also allocated to each player. It allows you to win one million euros, independently of the main jackpot.
In each draw, there is a winner in , assures the FDJ. And a person becomes a millionaire.

Why such a large sum on Friday?

Last Tuesday, no one won the jackpot of 64 million euros. The mechanics of the lottery would have wanted this jackpot to climb by a few million, like the previous times (Friday September 20 it was at 54 million euros, Tuesday the 17th at 41 million, etc.)

However, 130 million euros are now on offer. Because this Friday’s draw is a special drawa “mega jackpot”, “like for Friday the 13th or the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games”, explains La Française des jeux.

Ce mega jackpot, only put into play 3 to 5 times a yearclimbs to “at least 130 million euros”, according to the FDJ regulations.

Two previous mega jackpots have already taken place this year, in January and March 2024. The first of the year rose to 144 million euros, then to 130 million.

But they had both been won outside France. The first in the United Kingdom and Spain and the second in Spain. Maybe this time, the jackpot will stay in France.

The draw is open until 8:15 p.m. this Friday to try to win this jackpot.
