Italy international Riccardo Calafiori scored a stunning goal on his Arsenal debut in their Premier League clash against Pep Guardiola’s reigning champions Manchester City.
The former Bologna centre-back made his first start for Arsenal on Sunday afternoon, having recorded three substitute appearances in the Premier League and Champions League following his €50m move in the summer.
Mikel Arteta gave him the green light to start at left-back, while first-team stalwarts Gabriel and William Saliba assumed their natural roles at centre-back.
The Gunners trailed 1-0 through Erling Haaland after nine minutes but managed to equalise through Calafiori’s superbly curled effort.
The versatile defender collected the ball from Gabriel Martinelli in a cutback, before adjusting his body to send a first-time left-footed strike curling past Ederson and into the top corner of the net with 22 minutes on the clock.
