As a protest against the rejection of his candidacy for the presidential election by the Independent High Authority for Elections (ISIE) despite the judgment rendered in his favor by the Administrative Court after appeal (as well as that pronounced in favor of two other rejected candidates Abdellatif Mekki and Mondher Zenaïdi), Imed Daïmi announced that he had seized the United Nations, thus attempting another internationalized appeal. Indeed, it was in a press release published yesterday, Thursday, September 19 on his official Facebook page that Daimi announced the news. He specified that he had filed a complaint with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights on Wednesday, September 18, 2024.

The former CPRist and friend of the Islamists denounces, via the same press release, serious attacks on his rights in the context of the electoral process for the presidential election. He adds that ” The rejection of his file compromises the proper democratic conduct of the election and calls into question its legitimacy“. Daïmi goes one better by stating that his complaint “iincludes evidence of violations of the Constitution, law and international treaties”. Considering this refusal as ” a violation not only of its national rights guaranteed by the Constitution, but also of rights protected by international agreements such as the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights, and other legal instruments“, he announces that his complaint has been addressed to the “Special Rapporteur on the right to participate in political life, the Special Rapporteur on freedom of opinion and expression, the Special Rapporteur on freedom of peaceful assembly and of association, the Special Rapporteur on the independence of judges and lawyers, the Special Rapporteur on human rights defenders and the Working Group on Arbitrary Detention”, the press release further underlines.
