“We have nothing to be ashamed of” says Olivier Auriac after Sturm Graz

For their first European outing in history, the Stade Brestois U19s lost (4-1) on Thursday, September 19 at Francis-Le Blé, against the Austrians of Sturm Graz in this first day of the Youth League. Despite the score, Olivier Auriac, the coach, is satisfied with the face displayed by his team, especially after returning from the locker room.

Olivier Auriac, Stade Brestois coach:

“I am obviously a little disappointed with our energy expenditure. We have nothing to be ashamed of in the match. We had trouble getting into the game, hesitating on the technical side. Gradually, the boys started to work hard and in the second half we showed a superb face in the game. We are closer to 2-2 than 3-1. As I often tell them in training, efficiency is in both areas. Today we did good content but one team was more efficient than us. It is very educational for them. That is what we must remember.

It’s good to be able to produce things but we have to finish. The second goal before half-time hurt us. We reduced the score, we’re really good. We decided to change our system to bring us more attacking play. It almost paid off. I’m very happy with the content. Now we have to work on efficiency. Today, we lacked precision in the last move, the last pass. I was afraid that we wouldn’t create any chances, that we wouldn’t be influential, not incisive enough, but we were. We just lacked the last move.”
