A German tourist succumbed to her injuries on the evening of Monday, September 16, after being bitten by a shark 500 kilometers off the coast of the Canary Islands (Spain). According to sea rescue services, the 30-year-old woman was attacked 278 miles southwest of the island of Gran Canaria. Cardiac arrest
Spanish emergency services were contacted at 2:55 p.m. (local time) to carry out a “medical evacuation”. After contacting the Moroccan authorities, they decided to send a helicopter and a Spanish army plane to assist the crew of the catamaran. The victim was taken care of by the helicopter around 8pm (local time), but died after a cardiac arrest during the evacuation to the hospital in Las Palmas, the capital of Gran Canaria, the emergency services said.
