The firefighters were called to intervene this Sunday, September 15, 2024 early in the afternoon but were only able to confirm the death of the victim.

It was a resident of Le Vivier who discovered the unfortunate man and raised the alarm this Sunday around 1 p.m. A motorcyclist was reportedly the victim of an accident on the RD 7 in Saint-Martin-de-Fenouillet at the junction with the Chemin du Soula. According to initial information, the 67-year-old driver lost control of the two-wheeler for a reason that has yet to be determined, left the road, was thrown over a fence and fell back down into the vineyards, trapped under his motorbike.

The firefighters were immediately called to the scene. Unfortunately, they could only confirm the death of the motorcyclist. The news of his death caused great emotion, especially since Rachid Lazizi had been a mechanic for many years on the main street of Saint-Paul-de-Fenouillet. He was ““very well known, very well liked, and very respected” villagers today “in shock”as well as those from all the surrounding areas, sometimes customers for more than 20 years of his establishment where he worked with his two children.

According to various testimonies, Rachid Lazizi left on Sunday for a motorcycle ride towards Fosse. At midday, he called a friend to explain that he had broken down at the Vivier bridge and asked him to come and join him with a trailer to transport his motorcycle. However, the relative did not even have time to gather the necessary equipment before the mechanic called him back to tell him that he had managed to restart it. Less than ten kilometers further, he was the victim of a fatal skid.

An investigation has been opened, entrusted to the gendarmerie services, in order to determine the causes and circumstances of this tragedy.
